Winter has been and gone, it is now time to get planning and ready for a season of adventures.
We have had a busy winter in the Great Kiwi Gravel household with the arrival of our second daughter. Time has been spent on keeping the house warm and getting cute smiles.
But now that spring is here, it is time to crank the blog back up and get you excited for some adventures ahead.
The #Bigfinishlineparty will not formally be happening in 2024. A fan favourite that has moved it's way around the South Island, we have elected to for go the gathering this year in favour of doing it justice in 2025.
So book your calendar now for October 18th 2025, where the #BFLP will return to Reefton.
#LPB Le Petit Brevet returns for the annual exploration of the Peninsular, and more lessons in the art of groveling up hills. Taking place on the 9th and 10th of November, the Muddy Gumboots Hunter Civil 6 Hour Blast will make a great warm up the weekend before.
While LPB officially has three courses, a Nice weekend out, the Original and a special set of Misery, we only recommend you attempt the Nice weekend or the Original. Joe Nation took on the Misery lap earlier in the year and managed to complete the ride within the allotted timeframe. You can enjoy his lap from the comfort of your couch here.
Edition Zero Gravel is coming around very quickly and we already have a great crew of people committed to their adventure around South Canterbury. People have been out riding the local roads and getting their training in.
We have some exciting news coming soon about the finish line village, watch this space.
In February we are due for the next edition of the Kiwi Brevet which takes in the top of the South. For 2025, this will all be a little bit different. Given Great Kiwi Gravel loves to create an adventure that results in some community, for 2025 we are turning the Kiwi Brevette around. It will start whenever you like and finish on Saturday the 8th of February, where we will gather for a #bigfinishlineparty dinner at the Dodson St Beer Garden. Additionally for 2025 the Brevette course will be the large course with a distance around 6-700km. There will be an additional new smaller loop that enjoys the Sounds area. This is to make the most of the stretched long weekend and to provide more accessible distances.
Watch this space for Maprogress registration.
And now for something completely different...
Our friends over at Muddy Gumboot Events have found a slice of paradise mixed in some gravel and have created East Coast Gravel. Lock in the 15th of March in 2025 for a fresh gravel adventure in North Canterbury. The course is spectacular with some stunning coastal views, and it also presents a healthy challenge.
In the mean time, happy riding, enjoy the adventure and we will see you out there.
